KATA refers to fundamental movements in Japanese martial arts but can easily refer to any basic activity, form, routine or pattern of behavior. Recognizable patterns of behavior and clear expectations make zeroing in on defects or abnormalities (problems) easy and serve as a basis for all continuous improvement opportunities.
Lean Manufacturing 5S KATA is a structured practice for consistent improvement. 5S KATA is a methodology that uses repeated, constant practice and scientific thinking to train the skills that enable a person to make rapid, incremental improvements every day. Practicing 5S KATA (patterns) consistently and deliberately forms a habit. Creating a habit develops new skills. With new skills comes increased confidence in one's abilities to recognize and make minor improvements that improve employee performance, safety and quality!
Participants will learn:
Origin of 5S KATA
Methodology of continuous improvement
How each employee can improve the overall performance of the operation
How each employee can positively impact overall safety and quality
The format of the training supports a (train the trainer) approach that allows the participants to push the training easily down to their own teams.
