Name: Berks Alliance Community Forum - A Path to Economic Success: Local Economic Development Strategies
Date: January 21, 2021
Time: 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM EST
Event Description:

As we begin to contemplate a future after the Covid-19 Pandemic, organizations in Berks County are beginning to plan strategies for economic recovery.

For example, the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance has undertaken a comprehensive planning process to develop its Economic Development Strategic Plan for 2021. The plan covers the traditional elements of business attraction and retention, but also addresses other components of a strong economy such as talent attraction, support of our agricultural community, attractive financing programs and real estate development.
Join us to learn more about the components of the plan as well and the specific tools that support the GRCA in its economic development work.

The County recently announced the creation of a clean energy fund to assist local commercial businesses launch energy efficiency, clean energy and water conversation projects.  It has created a high-level position to help coordinate economic development activities across the county and foster a collaborative, cooperative and inclusive public private partnership to grow our local economy.

In addition, the City is in the process of developing a strategic economic plan for the downtown region, which will focus making investments in infrastructure, while supporting business and housing developments in the core of the city.  The City recently reorganized its Redevelopment Authority, which in turn has led to the proposed development of properties that have been neglected for some time.

Our forum will focus on the work of these three organizations to create a more vibrant, economically strong and inclusive community.
