Mark Shearer from Shearer Technical brings to this networking seminar 50 years of business experience and 32 years of QuickBooks accounting knowledge. At an early age of 14, Mark?s father, Sol Shearer from Shearer?s BBQ Ranch exposed Mark to the business world. In Mark?s word, ?every darn Sunday my father would make me sit with him and learn how to make entries in these huge journal books. I had to write the checks to pay the employees, the invoices for the week, and address the envelops?. ?My mother cornered me as well and taught me how to type on the old-fashioned Underwood manual typewriter?.
At the time this seemed like a daunting experience, only to realize decades later this knowledge would benefit more than could ever realized.
Everything changed in 1992 when the business grew exponentially. ?I remember asking my father how the business was going and were we making money?. ?He would reply, ?well ? we just got the taxes back from last year?. ?But dad, Mark responded, I want to know how we did last month, or just last week?.
When realizing this was not going to happen the introduction of Quickbooks was in order. This program brought the power and control of knowing where we financially stood at any given moment.
In the Spring of 1999 the three businesses Mark?s father started were sold, and Mark began his new career in the technology business. For over 15 years Mark taught continuing education courses in QuickBooks at RACC and onsite for many business owners.
?At an early age I learned that the success of your business starts with proper bookkeeping?, states Mark. ?And for half a century my focus has been to educate small business owners on this principle?.
