WHO WE ARE
The Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) is one of 29 PA intermediate units created by the Pennsylvania General Assembly in 1971 to serve the educational needs of public and nonpublic schools in the fields of student services, special education, education planning, and technology. The BCIU has adopted a broader array of services focusing on the unique needs of students, families, and educators in Berks County and across the Commonwealth. The BCIU also acts as a liaison agent between the schools and the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
OUR SERVICES
The Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) offers approximately 200 diverse programs and services, including alternative and special education, early intervention, services to at-risk students and students with disabilities, STEM and career readiness, as well as curriculum, instruction, job coaching, and professional staff development. The BCIU also provides business management, human resources and information technology services, safe schools services, creative services, pupil transportation, operations, and many other varied services.
