Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County (BCSS) is a survivor-driven non-profit organization. BCSS provides hope, information, emotional and sometimes financial, support to women, men and families affected by breast cancer in Berks County.
In the fall of 1993, breast cancer survivors and family members of women with breast cancer recognized a tremendous need in Berks County: A need for support and educational services surrounding this disease. These concerned women came together and, as a group, created Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County. This grassroots effort had meetings at kitchen tables and first “offices” were the trunks of their cars. Operations began in July of 1994 and then in December of that year, moved into an office here in West Reading.
The initial goals were to implement support groups, establish a Support Line and compile a resource guide. These goals were accomplished in that first year. Since then, we have added more services and outgrown 2 offices!
All of the programs we offer are provided at NO COST, regardless of socioeconomic circumstances or where medical treatment is obtained. BCSS does not offer medical advice; however, information may be shared on personal experiences, treatments, etc. No giving personal interpretations or advice, sharing medication or offering recommendations.
